About Us

About Kate:
I come from a close family consisting of my mom, dad and brother. My childhood was filled with so much love, support and fun - all things I want for my children as well. I consider myself very lucky to call my brother my best friend. We are so close, we even went to the same college together which was an awesome experience. I can't wait to watch Brady become a big brother and help him cultivate a close relationship with his future little brother or sister.
One of my favorite hobbies is gardening. We had a large garden in my childhood home and I look forward to having a similar one in my forever home. I love to grow herbs, tomatoes, squash, zucchini and even strawberries! My goal is to learn how to grow big things like a pumpkin or watermelon.
I also love spending time outside, especially on long walks with my family. We try to get our son and Moe out for a walk on a daily basis.
Fortunately, almost all our family and friends live within an hour of us, so we also love spending time with all of them. Whether it's a relaxing get-together watching a football game or a fun trip doing something unique (like goat yoga!), we always have a good time.
Lastly, I am very passionate about community service and volunteering. Growing up, my mom took my brother and I to her community service projects on a monthly basis. We would help her at the local soup kitchen or go with her on her Meals on Wheels route. My brother and I loved the experience so much, we ended up starting a service group at our college. The group started with 10 students - today there are over 150 students in the group! Brian and I continue this work as a family through fostering shelter dogs. This is something we can't wait to do with our children when they are old enough to play a part. The picture below is us with our dog Moe and the foster we helped get adopted, Tails! The picture on the left is of me and my brother.
About Brian:
I grew up in a happy home consisting of my mom, dad and brother. Even though my brother is 4 years younger than me, I consider him one of my best friends. We grew up spending a lot of time on our family's boat or by the pool. Like Kate, I hope to instill a close relationship between Brady and his future sibling.
I am currently working as an attorney. I work entirely from home which has been great in terms of getting to spend additional time with Kate and Brady. This allows me to eat lunch with them every day which I am very thankful for.
When I'm not working, I enjoy going to the gym and doing work around the house. In our first home, I built a fence around our house. I can't wait to find our forever home so I can continue these projects with the help of my children.
I am always up for trying something new. I really enjoy trying new restaurants and different foods. I've been known for surprising Kate with last minute events too. When we first started dating, I decided to book us a hotel in Boston and we were literally driving there an hour later! I am looking forward to planning these adventures with our children once they're old enough to remember.
Most importantly, I love spending time with our friends and family. Most of my family lives within an hour of us which allows us to see them frequently. My dad lives in Florida which is great because seeing him is always a vacation! I am excited to one day watch my children's faces light up when they hear we're going to Florida to visit Grandpa and spend some time at the beach!

Our Joint Interests:
We love to explore new places and do different things. We love trying new places like restaurants, wineries, state parks, etc. At least once per year, we attempt to travel to a new state in order to gain new experiences and learn something new. One of our favorite trips was to Savannah, Georgia. We stayed in a beautiful old building right next to the river. We enjoyed trying the restaurants, walking along the famous River Street, and taking a ride on the ferry down the river! We collect a magnet from every place we visit and add it to our collection on the fridge!
In our leisure time, we also enjoy spending time at home. Our favorite nights are the ones when we move all the furniture in our living room and set up blankets and pillows all over the floor. We create a fun, cozy space with a roaring fire to watch a movie or our favorite TV shows.
When we are spending a quiet weekend at home, we also love to be outside. We love spending time in our backyard, running around with Moe, or sitting by our fire pit watching the sunset. We also love to cook and grill any chance we get! Both our families loved to teach us to cook when we were growing up which is something we would like to teach our children too. I (Brian) have core memories of my grandma and grandpa’s meat sauce that we’d eat almost every Sunday! I can’t wait to make the very same recipe for my kids (once they’re old enough to handle a little hot pepper flakes)! In my (Kate) family, we have a secret Christmas cookie recipe that has been passed down for many generations. My favorite childhood memories involve rolling out that cookie dough and making cookies to share with everyone at Christmas time. We are counting down the Christmases until our children will be sharing in all these traditions with us.

Why We Are Looking to Adopt & Why We Are Passionate About Adoption:
Our son was born in 2022, 6 weeks early via an emergency c-section. He ended up spending a month in the NICU following his early birth due to a multitude of medical issues. I was also re-admitted to the hospital after doctors concluded I had preeclampsia (which was not diagnosed during my pregnancy). We have since learned that all these risks are likely to occur again in another pregnancy. Therefore, we made the decision that we would love to grow our family through adoption.
We are passionate about adoption for a number of reasons. First, my (Kate) father was adopted from Germany! His adoptive parents brought him to America when he was a few days old and provided him with a wonderful, supportive and loving family – whom we all cherish very much. The fact that my father was adopted showed me from a young age that family isn’t just created through blood relation. We genuinely believe that family are the people we choose – regardless of DNA!
We are also passionate about adoption because we are not the only ones preparing to pursue it in our family. Both our brothers are considering adopting children as well. We think it is really special and important that the child we adopt will be surrounded by family who have themselves been adopted! Our extended family will be able to relate in how we’ve built our families which we both believe will be an asset to our future child.
